I received a sheet with random shapes and, I had to turn these into characters. I started by sketching some face features like eyes, noses and mouths on each shape. Once I was happy with the sketch, I used fine liners to go over it. I used my knowledge from the inking lesson to play with shape and texture by using white markers on top of black ink.
This exercise was meant to test imagination skills. I am happy with how creative my characters turned out to be.

Traditional inking
In traditional inking lessons, we have been asked to create a piece of artwork made with ink and work into it with white markers. I decided to draw a movie character in a suit that I filled with details such as a texture on the leather parts of the costume, pockets and shine on swords by using a white marker.

Riso printing

It was my first time doing Riso printing so, I decided to go with something simple. I designed two layers of a pumpkin picture to print it. There was a limited number of colours in the Riso printer, so I went with yellow and dark blue. When the two colours overlayed, it turned out to be a yellow pumpkin with black/green shading. It was interesting to experiment with new media.

Screen Printing
I used to do a lot of screen printing at college, which I felt confident preparing. However, I have never printed onto fabric before. It was much harder to print ink onto a bag. The first layer of light mint ink Shows it perfectly as it didn't go through the screen, which we can see in the right bottom corner. It is because lighter colours are harder to print. I cover it up with a magenta print of a character I created on one of pre tasks lessons. I am very happy with this print and how detailed it came out.

Today I learnt how to ink digitally as well as colour and add texture. At first, it felt weird to ink digitally, I couldn't go exactly over the lines because I wasn't used to drawing on the tablet. Adding texture was a much simpler task. I enjoyed colouring digitally and I will surely use it in my projects.
